In May, Vocal Dimension headed north to the Sage in Gateshead for the Sweet Adelines International Region 31 Convention: 'a celebration of the best of women’s barbershop singing in the UK and Netherlands'.
Friday saw us cheering on our two quartets, FourEffect and The Hummingbirds, as they gave wonderful performances. Out of 23 competing quartets, they placed 11th and 8th respectively, and we were all hugely proud of them.
On Saturday, Master Director Valerie and 33 singing members of
the chorus stepped onto the Sage stage. It was our first time competing as a midsize chorus (31–60 singers), with TWO new songs started in only January, so we were extremely pleased to win third place medals.
And later, while the Chorus competition results were collated, we had the honour of performing our 15 minute Vegas package to the packed and very appreciative Region 31 audience. We'll never forget the prolonged standing ovation, which left us speechless and tingling.
On Sunday, following an excellent education workshop by
Queens of Harmony, The Buzz, there was yet another reason for us to celebrate. Karen James, our Finance Co-ordinator (and, as the 'BBC' stalwart Barbara Shoppe, MC of our Baltimore & Vegas International sets), was chosen as a Region 31 'Woman of Note'.
A fitting end to a truly memorable weekend.
