Radio Redhill

Vocal Dimension was thrilled to be approached in March for an interview on award winning Radio Redhill, East Surrey Hospital’s in house radio station.

Vocal Dimension Chorus on Radio Redhill

To celebrate their 35th anniversary Radio Redhill had an FM licence to broadcast to the local area and we were granted a live spot on the celebrated Sunday Supplement show. Excitement was in the air during rehearsals that week and also on the day – our first public performance, live on local radio!

But excitement wasn’t the only thing in the air, as three of the four founding members, including Director Valerie Taylor, were out of the country when the Icelandic Volcano ash grounded all flights. Valerie and Emma Duguid were stuck in the USA and Debbie Chamberlayne was halfway home from New Zealand in Hong Kong, prompting member Lesley Tring to christen us Volcanic Dimension! With 9 of the chorus, including Emma Duguid who managed to grab the last remaining seat from Los Angeles to get back the morning before, and Emma Riley stepping into Valerie’s Director shoes, we arrived to warm up and prepare.
Radio Redhill had an FM licence to broadcast to the local area We were greeted by our contact Irwyn Davies (left in the picture) and Nigel Gray our charming interviewer (right in the picture), they put us at our ease, or at least as much ease as one can have going into a live interview! We had an absolute ball! Four songs plus 35 minutes of questions to Emma and Emma, with members Liz Jackett and Claire Miskin talking about why they joined VDC and enjoy it so much.

We certainly hope those listening enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed performing for them. Click here to listen to the full recording (7.95Mb download). Thank you so much, Radio Redhill, for such a great opportunity to share the fun Vocal Dimension has each week.
